MANILA, Philippines — A magnitude four earthquake hit the province of Occidental Mindoro on Saturday morning.
According to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs), the temblor occurred in Abra de Ilog, Occidental Mindoro at 8:54 a.m.
Based on the agency’s earthquake information, the shaking was tectonic in origin and had a one-kilometer depth of focus.
Phivolcs said instrumental intensities were recorded in the province. Instrumental Intensity III was detected in Puerto Galera, Instrumental Intensity II in Abra de Ilog, and Instrumental Intensity I in the City of Calapan.
The instrumental intensities are based on the ground motion detected by an intensity meter.
Meanwhile, a tectonic earthquake occurred in Alilem, Ilocos Sur at 3:46 a.m. was also reported by Phivolcs.
The agency said it was in magnitude 3.6 and had 17-kilometer depth of focus. It registered an Instrumental Intensity I in Candon Ilocos Sur, and in Santol, La Union.
On Friday evening, Phivolcs likewise recorded an earthquake in Northern Samar. The magnitude three temblor hit Laoang at 8:31 p.m. It was tectonic in origin and had a 16-kilometer depth of focus.
Phivolcs indicated that Intensity III was felt in Laoang, while Intensity II was felt in Palapag, both in Northern Samar.
Unlike instrumental intensities, these intensities are based on the actual motion felt by people in the affected area.
Phivolcs noted that they are not expecting damage nor aftershocks from the said temblors.
